Dogiyai, Jubi – A lack of textbooks forced students at SDN Bogiyateugi elementary school to use materials taken from higher grades.
For instance, second grade pupils must study learning materials for the third grade.
One of the teachers Devit Bouya, said he should teach dozens of the pupils under such condition.
“For example, we use the third grade textbook for moral and nationalism education for the second grade pupils. It is the same with other grades with different subjects,” Bouya told Jubi in Moanemani, Dogiyai, on Friday (30/9/2016).
When asked about the library, teacher who have taught for eight years in this school, said, “Do not ask about the library, while the textbooks are not well equipped as well as the school building,”
He said the school has 98 pupils and five teachers, one civil servant and the rest are contract teachers.
“We teach many subjects, from religious education, moral and nationalism, science, social science, sport education, art and local content. We only have three classrooms for pupils from first to sixth grades,” he explained.
Since the school where is located in Kamuu Selatan Sub-district was built in 2008, it has never been revamped or obtained the government assistance to complete the facilities and learning materials. One of the teachers who stay with her commitment to teach dozens of the pupils is Elizabeth Pekei. Although she is a contract teacher, she admitted to stay committed with the very limited facilities of school and teacher’s welfare.
“We leave with the local people there (Kamuu Selatan sub-district). We always prioritize the children to get better education,” she said. (*/rom)
